6. macOS on VMware Workstation Pro

To install and run macOS on VMware Workstation Pro on Windows 11, first download and run the VMware Unlocker tool to enable macOS as a guest OS option, then create a new virtual machine using a downloaded macOS ISO file, and finally configure the VM's hardware settings and install macOS from the ISO.

# Prerequisites


VMware Workstation Pro

  • Download and install the latest version.

macOS ISO

  • Obtain a macOS ISO image file (note: downloading ISOs from unofficial sources can be risky; ensure the source is reputable or create one).

Auto Unlocker Tool

  • Download the latest Auto Unlocker tool from GitHub to add macOS as a guest OS option in VMware.

# Installation Steps


  1. Extract the downloaded Auto Unlocker tool.
  2. Run the unlocker.exe file as an administrator.
  3. Click the Patch button and let the tool work to enable the macOS option.
  4. Open VMware Workstation Pro and click Create a New Virtual Machine.
  5. Select I will install the operating system later and click Next.
  6. In the Guest OS selection, choose Apple Mac OS X (select the correct version of the ISO).
  7. Provide a name for the VM and select a location for its files.
  8. Allocate sufficient storage space (e.g., 100 GB or more) and select to split the virtual disk into multiple files.
  9. After creating the VM, click Edit virtual machine settings.
  10. Increase the allocated RAM to at least 4 GB or more.
  11. Adjust the number of CPU cores and processors based on the system.
    In the CD/DVD settings, select Use ISO image file and browse to the downloaded macOS ISO.
  12. Start the virtual machine.
  13. During the installation process, select preferred language and proceed.
    When prompted, select Disk Utility to format the virtual disk.
  14. Select the VMware virtual SATA hard drive, click Erase, give it a name, and confirm to format it.
  15. After formatting, select the Install Mac OS Sonoma (or the appropriate macOS version) option.
  16. Agree to the software license terms and select the formatted drive as the installation location.
  17. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
  18. After installation, an initial setup will guide through configuring the country/region, language, and other settings. Some of these steps can be skipĀ for now.
  19. To ensure optimal performance, install the VMware Tools package for macOS after the operating system is installed.
